Our family’s story in this community began in the early 1950s, when Blaine and Elsie Marks, parents of John Marks, settled in the Ponderay area. They operated a small dairy farm just outside of town and later ran a beloved A&W root beer stand from 1962 to 1972, becoming a familiar and trusted part of the local community Our Family timeline.

The Beginning of the Agency
In 1976, Blaine and Elsie’s son Glen Marks brought the family’s values into the insurance world, becoming the first Marks family member to partner with Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance. The agency’s first office opened in downtown Sandpoint, built on the same principles that guided the family for decades: integrity, relationships, and service Our Family timeline.

John Marks: Decades of Experience & Local Leadership
In the early 1990s, John Marks joined the family business, working alongside his brother Glen as the agency continued to grow and eventually relocate to Ponderay.
Today, John has over 32 years of experience with Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance. His deep knowledge of insurance, combined with firsthand understanding of North Idaho life, allows him to guide clients with clarity, honesty, and confidence Our Family timeline.
After Glen’s retirement in 2013, John assumed full leadership of the agency — continuing the family legacy while maintaining the personal, local service clients had come to trust.
Josh Marks: Continuing the Family Tradition
In 2023, a new generation officially joined the agency when Josh Marks, John’s son, came on board.
Josh represents the future of Marks Insurance Agency, bringing fresh perspective while staying grounded in the same values the agency was built on. Working alongside his father, Josh is committed to maintaining strong relationships with clients and ensuring the agency continues to serve North Idaho families for generations to come Our Family timeline.
