Our History
A Family Rooted in North Idaho
The Marks family's story in this community began in the early 1950s, when Blaine and Elsie Marks settled in the Ponderay area. They operated a small dairy farm just outside of town and later ran a beloved A&W root beer stand from 1962 to 1972, becoming a familiar and trusted part of the local community.
In 1976, their son Glen Marks brought the family's values into the insurance world, becoming the first Marks family member to partner with Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance. The agency's first office opened in downtown Sandpoint, built on the same principles that guided the family for decades: integrity, relationships, and service.
In the early 1990s, John Marks joined the family business. After Glen's retirement in 2013, John assumed full leadership — continuing the legacy while maintaining the personal, local service clients had come to trust. In 2023, John's son Josh came on board, representing the next generation.
Today, we're proud to be a multi-generation, father-and-son agency — carrying on the same dedication to personal service, local expertise, and trusted guidance that our clients have relied on for nearly 50 years.

Agency Leader
With over 32 years of experience in the insurance industry, John leads the Marks Insurance Agency with the same values his father Glen instilled — personal service, deep local knowledge, and a genuine commitment to helping neighbors protect what matters most.
Josh Marks
Agent
John's son Josh joined the agency in 2023, representing the next generation of the Marks family in insurance. Josh brings fresh energy and a deep understanding of the community he grew up in.
Caiya Yanik
Licensed Agent Associate
Caiya is a licensed agent associate who helps clients navigate their coverage options with professionalism and care. Born and raised in North Idaho, she has a deep appreciation for the community and brings strong attention to detail and a client-first approach.
Emma Silva
Receptionist
Emma is the friendly voice you'll hear when you call the office. Born and raised in North Idaho, she keeps the front desk running smoothly and ensures every client feels welcomed, supported, and heard.
Annette Marks
Office Support
Annette manages payroll, office expenses, and provides essential support to both the team and clients. Fully cross-trained in agency service work, she's often the knowledgeable voice helping with billing questions and policy changes.
